Documenting a Collaboration

This Website is a Work in Progress

This is a work in progress. Emails will continue to be added until messages spanning the full duration of correspondence have been posted. This paragraph will be updated when this work has been completed.

First Correspondences

Unable to locate an email address for Dr. Lynne Kelly, Dr. Andrea Alveshere initially reached out via Facebook messenger. Dr. Kelly responded warmly, sharing an email address and inviting Dr. Alveshere to call her Lynne.

Finalizing the Conference Presentation and Brainstorming About the Book

Off to Denver for the 2022 AABA Conference; Publisher Interest in Australia

The 2022 Conference Poster and Virtual Presentation video can be found on the website, above. Note that the Oral Knowledge Skill Set was mentioned, and a table summarized the overall counts of different types of traits, but the full, detailed Skill Set was never made publicly available. This was intentional. Publishing an article in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, which is a crucial step toward gaining general acceptance of a new scientific hypothesis, typically requires that the detailed material has not been published previously elsewhere.

Collaborating in Earnest on the Book Proposal

The above is a response to Lynne’s suggestion the Vic co-author only the academic articles, and Lynne co-author only the book.
The above message is in response to Lynne’s suggestion that the authors each write drafts of their own chapters, then swap them so Lynne can revise Andrea’s to be more chatty, and Andrea can revise Lynne’s for scientific accuracy and relevance to the larger story connecting the NF1 gene to the Oral Knowledge Skill Set.
The above message is in response to Lynne sending an updated version of the Skill Set spreadsheet, with changes to the colors and formatting from the previous version.

Response to an email in which Option 1 was to try to find a U.S. literary agent and a U.S. Publisher. Option 2 was to take the “easy route” and sign with Lynne’s Australian publisher, Allen & Unwin.
Response to Lynne’s suggestion that Andrea’s husband, Don, write a reflection for the book from his perspective as an Indigenous (Dakota) tribal member.

Lynne Suggests a Plan to Speed Things Up

Lynne suggests committing to her Australian publisher to help speed up the project. She also offers to cut and paste Andrea’s words from emails, drafts, and lectures into Andrea’s chapters, to make the work go more quickly. This newfound urgency is a marked departure from Lynne’s message on Feb. 13th.
